VisitPA – Friday Foto and Madison’s 7th Birthday!

Abiah Taylor Barn (1724) - VisitPA’s “Friday Foto”
Abiah Taylor Barn (1724) VisitPA’s “Friday Foto”

WOW! What a morning of activity!

My alarm clock did not go off…

No need, instead, all one could hear in the house was the screaming giggles of joy!

“It’s my Birthday! It’s my Birthday!”

Madison is now 7, and I think the whole township is aware!

After getting the kids off to school and daycare, I could start my day by checking in with the world.

As I checked Facebook, I too got my own present!

My “Abiah Taylor Barn (1724)” image that I had taken on Tuesday (12/14) had been selected as this week’s VisitPA’s “Friday Foto“!

This is my second “Friday Foto“, with my first one back in September, and once again, I am deeply honored for the recognition!

What was really humbling, was reading some of the comments…

A couple of people posted say that the images reminded them of the work of Andrew Wyeth.

I have a LONG way to go, if ever, to reach that caliber of mastery.

But I do wish to Thank VisitPA.com again for their selection!

and…

Happy 7th Birthday Madison! — We Love you very much!

Not invited to the Party…

I just got back from trying to vote in the PA primaries…

As the volunteers were schmoozing my six-year-old daughter, I was asked what Party I was with, to which I said, “I’m unclaimed”, and proceed to look at the map of where to go.

I heard a women behind me say, ‘you need to think quick or you can’t vote’, to which I turned around and said that I am a registered Independent. (Have been since I was 18)

The group of volunteers then told me that during primaries in PA, only registered Democrats and Republicans can vote.

Yes, I had forgotten this little detail of politics, and yes it ticked me off the last time…

So because I have declared my independence of either party, I am segregated because… Why?

“Not good enough”?

“Not clean enough”?

“Not a follower”?

Folks, it was called the Declaration of Independence, that formed our government here is Philadelphia over 234 years ago!

As my daughter and I left, I did have some comments to the volunteers about how this “rule” is just part of the corruption of a two-party system, and that both parties are failing the people, and things need to change.

So much for trying to illustrate to my daughter the importance of voting as a civic duty.

She and I did talk more about it back at the car…

Wonder which “Party” she is going to choose?

The Date

Five years ago, we were watching the now-defunct TV series “Millenium” (done by Chris Carter, the same guy who does “X-files”), and they had a whole show based on a cult who believed that the world was going to end on May 5, 2000 because there would be a total planetary alignment. We joked that we should plan to get married 5/5/2000 since the world was going to end anyway, and then Andrew wouldn’t really have to stay married. Andrew confirmed with some online research that the planetary alignment was really going to happen, and so, the joke date was born…

As the year 2000 approached, we discovered that 5/5/2000 was in fact a FRIDAY. Of course, because we care about YOU and didn’t want everyone we know to hate us for making them take a day off work, we were forced to move the date of the wedding to the next day, Saturday May 6th. (Isn’t it a good thing 5/5 wasn’t a Wednesday?)

However, to retain the legend of the planetary alignment, we plan to have our marriage license issued for May 5, 2000 and celebrate our anniversary on that date as well. We know this is a little unusual, but because you know both of us can be unusual AT BEST sometimes, this is fitting!

See you on the Sixth!
