Skip’s 30th Reunion

It is the Monday after Skip’s BIG 30th High School Reunion, and unlike Las Vegas, things do not stay there!

He could not afford to spend much time, but he did manage to visit some of the more cherished places.

It is hard to believe that over 30 years ago, Skip first walked down this same slate path into his future…

As he walked through the doors and passed the various announcement boards and into the common room, where he paused and looked.

There it was, at the other end of the dining hall.

The mural of the school’s foundation, that stared at him, during all his meals those many years ago.

He walked down the small set of stairs, and moved into the room, where he took this picture.

In the back of his mind, he heard a little voice saying he was about to receive three marks.

He scampered the rest of the way into the hallway, turning right and headed out to to the lawn.

While taking this picture, the clock bells chimed, triggering a distance memory of days gone by, and reminding him that his time to leave was closely approaching.

He walked back across the lawn, reentering the building, looking for that room where he made another cameo appearance several years back.

O Captain! My Captain!

Snickering to himself, he knew he had to get back to his boat.

He stayed just long enough for the Class Reunion photo…

With that, he was off.

A Time I Logged Off the Internet 001

I wish to dispel a myth…

For years, folks have accused me of NEVER logging off the internet…

I DO!

At LEAST once a week, during the spring, summer and fall!

You want Proof?

A Time I Logged Off the Internet 001
A Time I Logged Off the Internet 001

How is that?

I setup my camera in the far corner of my yard, and used my iPod Touch and TriggerTrap to record the “session”…

Then in Adobe Photoshop CS 5.1, I combined over 30 individual images into a composite, which you see above.

This was very painful, and required a lot of RAM and numerous files… and ‘Yes”, I’m still 32-bit…

But the end result, I have ‘proof’ that I have done ‘work’ outside of the internet!

I am still working on a proposal to ‘off shore’ this task to non-terrestrials…

Details to follow…

Stroud Preserve Springtime in B&W

Some images taken during a recent spring time walk around Stroud Preserve.

All images were shot in ‘traditional’ HDR bracket fashion, and processed into a ‘raw’ combined HDR file.

Normally, I use Adobe Photoshop to do my B&W conversion, but since the Google/Nik Software upgrade, I now had a chance to play with Silver Efex Pro 2.

Photoshop is great for doing a straight conversion via the native B&W menu, but to explore other options, quickly, and then build on them, Silver Efex Pro is the answer.

I still used Photoshop to tweak the final files, but I ended up in a different place than I originally envisioned.

So, what do you think?

Corrupt Header Image Issue – SOLVED

WordPress.org logo

I’m having one of those smack my head moments right now…

Seems that when I transferred hosting companies, not all my root level path names transferred cleanly, and it has caused little issues over time, and finally today, I solved a long-standing issue with Corrupt Header Image!

Normally, one can customize their WordPress Header by using Appearance > Header to add an image or several, and then have the Header area display Random images.

This can be a very cool idea, but what if you wanted to Delete one of those images?

In my case, one of my Random images had become corrupt, or should I say, the link had been broken…

When a web page displayed, and the Random feature was turned “On“, you had a 1 in 5 chance of seeing a Large Default Broken Link Icon, which is very ugly to first time visitors, so I had to resort back to a Single image for my Header.

In my basic research into this, several Posts suggested that I should check my

wp-content/themes/twentyeleven.child/images

for the images (Note – this is a Child theme).

In my case, none of the Five header images where there.

Where to look next…

Finally having some time to dig into the code, the Images in the Custom Header section can be found by when the images were Posted!

wp-content/uploads <- Year/Month

Which makes sense, but there is not direct link in Appearance > Header, or ‘float over’ info on the source/pathname of the Images.

In Media manager, a Header image is shown in Bold, “– Header Image“, but there is no filter to find them all at once.

To find my Image in question, I used the Appearance > Header page, and then using the Show Code feature, I was able to trace back to the correct uploads folder.

Unfortunately, once at the correct image, Edit Media, there is no way to Edit the base filename path to fix the broken Link, so I had to Delete the entire image.

Broken - ecbiz135.inmotionhosting.com/~aseymo5/
Correct - www.aseymour.com/

Once done, and a quick Refresh, the Appearance > Header page displays the rest of the Header images correctly, and you are now able to use the Random button without a Visitor Display issue!

Hope this helps another Admin/User!
