A series of Long Exposures taken of the Marsh Creek Spillway in Chester County, PA.
My first series of images using my new Triggertrap Mobile – Exposures ranging from 0.4-500 seconds, for HDR post capture processing using Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop and Nik Software – HDR Efex Pro 2.
Not sure how many folks have run into this, but I was kind of curious to see what folks think on this subject.
As many of my followers and readers know, I maintain a Flickr account for my photographic work, and may remember that I have a big interest in Japanese maples, to which there are several images in my photostream.
Users of Flickr know that they can track various metrics on their images within their account, and over time you begin to see a trend of where your viewers are coming from.
Over the past couple of months, I began to see a Refer coming from Craigslist.com, and one day, I decided to trackback original link, and see what is was being used for, and in doing so, I found a Craigslist User linking to one of my images on Flickr, who was selling Japanese maples in Seattle area.
This kept up for several days, and I actually e-mailed the user, on June 13th,
in which I do express my hope that my images are helping in their effort of selling more Japanese Maples.
During the next couple of week, I continued to notice some more views, but after a while, they went back to near zero.
Today, while checking my Flickr account numbers, I noticed the CraigsList.com Referrers link again…
and tracked it back again…
In the mean time, I have gotten no word from the CraigsList User at all.
With all this being said, my questions are this…
1) Am I going overboard?
– This CraigsList User is showing my Flickr Link clearly, but at the same time, there is no further acknowledgement, reference, permission or Thank you.
2) Should I be asking for compensation?
– It appears that this User might be making some money, since this is their Second advertisement on CraigsList.
3) What level of compensation?
– We all know, today’s economics are bad, and everyone is trying to make a money, but what is “Fair” these days? and on something like this?
4) What should be my next step?
– Well, I have kind of “outed” them with this Post, but considering that “their” true identity is still hidden…
I just got an alert from my Flickr mail that the Director of Communications at the Natural Lands Trust, asking for permission to use this image as part of their collection for Stroud Preserve!
Needless to say, I’m very honored by this recognition!
thank you very much for this honor and I look forward to seeing my image on your website!

Update
Since getting this e-mail, I have had the chance to visit both the Binky Lee and ChesLen Preserves with Madison and Logan for our Family Nature Walks! (Unfortunately, Amy can join us because of her allergies!)
Again I am blown away by the fact that I have traveled past both these preserves many a times and never realized they were there, let alone how beautiful they are!
This past Saturday, December 10th, was the annual Downingtown Good Neighbor Christmas parade, and that night I processed my images into the early morning hours, and finally posted them to both my SmugMug and Flickr accounts at about 4 AM on Sunday.
Early Monday afternoon, I got a call on my cell phone from Josh Maxwell, the mayor of Downingtown, asking me if he could license one of my images. Needless to say I was very excited, and we exchanged several e-mails in regards to his request.
At around 11 o’clock Monday night, while I was still online, I noticed that the mayor had posted on Facebook the image that we had chatted about earlier in the day.
I quickly jumped up to Flickr and SmugMug to get an idea of what my view usage was, and I was extremely surprised to see that my Flickr account had already jumped to over 1800 views within 20 minutes, and with each refresh, the numbers just got higher and higher.
As I watched, I also realized, that my total number of views was reaching the 50,000 mark very quickly, and by 12:20am, the 50,000 mark had been broken!
It was very difficult to go to sleep because of the adrenaline of reaching this new milestone and seeing that the views just kept climbing and climbing.
When I finally woke up later on Tuesday and check Flickr, my view count was over 8000 views.
Throughout the day, I monitored my Flickr views, and by early afternoon, I had reached over 10,000 views for a single day!
Needless to say, this was by far the single largest days reviews on my Flickr site, and my SmugMug site had also seen a dramatic increase in views! (Final Day’s Total – 10,428)
I definitely want to thank all those new visitors and especially Mayor Josh Maxwell for contributing to these new milestones!
Yesterday was the annual Downingtown Good Neighbor Christmas Parade, which was held on a beautiful Saturday with the temperatures in the mid to lower 40s.
This year was the first time in three years, that I did not have my kids with me.
Why?
Well, my daughter was actually in the parade this year with her Brownie troop for the first time! (My wife and son decided to walk along with them!)
This allowed me to wonder around the parade as it happen, offering many more opportunities to find and capture scenes as they happened.
This years parade seemed much bigger, and from what I understand, there were around 400+ Daisies, Brownies and Girl Scouts this year alone!
Needless to say, I took many pictures, and was up until 4am this morning processing those images which can be found on Flickr!
I hope you enjoy them, and would love to hear your thoughts and comments!
